Plano West Varsity Wolves Fall to Guyer Varsity Wildcats

 

The Plano West Varsity Wolves fell to the Guyer Varsity Wildcats on Friday, dropping both games of their playoff doubleheader.

 

In the first game, Plano West jumped out to an early lead when Abby Jennings tripled in the first inning, scoring one run. However, Guyer quickly answered with a single from Finley Montgomery to tie the game at one.

 

Guyer broke the game open in the second inning, scoring seven runs on four hits to take an 8-1 lead, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Madison Joyner. A sacrifice fly from Emma Richard in the third extended Guyer’s lead to 9-1.

 

Plano West continued to battle, with Jennings leading the offense by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Despite the effort, Plano West could not overcome the early deficit, ultimately falling 9-4. Marlee Flanigan took the loss, pitching six innings while allowing nine runs (seven earned) and striking out four.

 

Guyer collected 11 hits in the first game, with Montgomery, Briana Williams, Chloe O’Brien, and Annaleeia Martinez each recording two hits. Montgomery, Richard, Martinez, and Joyner each drove in two runs, and Williams stole two bases. Guyer’s defense was flawless, with Megan DeWitt leading the team with 11 chances in the field.

 

In the second game, Guyer continued their momentum, defeating Plano West 7-2. Guyer took control in the second inning with a single from Cali Parham and a two-run double by Richard. DeWitt added another run in the third with a sacrifice fly.

 

Plano West’s offense was led by Kendall Prowell, Amber Carrillo, Brooke Reasoner, Jennings, and Abby Cuellar, each collecting a hit. Prowell and Reasoner drove in the Wolves’ two runs.

 

Mackie Ambriz earned the win for Guyer, allowing three hits and two runs over three and one-third innings. Cuellar pitched in relief for Plano West, allowing three runs over four and two-thirds innings.

 

Guyer amassed 10 hits in the second game, with O’Brien, Montgomery, and Martinez again tallying two hits each. Richard drove in two more runs, capping a strong day at the plate. Guyer’s defense remained error-free, with DeWitt making nine plays to anchor the infield.
