Plano West Varsity Wolves Face Tough Competition, Bounce Back with a Win Over Rains
It was a rollercoaster weekend for the Plano West Varsity Wolves, as they battled through two tough matchups against Rockwall-Heath and Rockwall before bouncing back with a solid victory over Rains.
Late Rally Costs Plano West in High-Scoring Battle with Rockwall-Heath
Plano West seemed poised for victory on Friday after building a commanding 9-1 lead against Rockwall-Heath, but a late-game surge by the Hawks turned the tables. A nine-run sixth inning powered by Kelsey Wathen’s three-run homer lifted Rockwall-Heath to a 10-9 comeback win.
Despite the loss, Plano West’s offense was on fire, tallying 11 hits. Amber Carrillo led the way, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Kendall Prowell and Andrea Carrillo each added two hits.
On the mound, Abby Cuellar pitched six innings, allowing 10 runs (only four earned) on 11 hits, with three strikeouts.
Plano West Falls to Rockwall, 9-3
Later that evening, Plano West took on Rockwall but struggled to contain their opponent’s hot bats, falling 9-3. Rockwall struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the third to take control.
Kaaya Mehta provided a spark for Plano West with a solo home run in the second inning and finished the game with two hits. Whitney Flanigan also collected two hits, while Andrea Carrillo added an RBI.
Kendall Prowell started in the circle for the Wolves, pitching two innings and allowing five runs on seven hits.
Wolves Rebound with a Strong 6-2 Win Over Rains, Marking Coach Ledsome’s 500th Career Victory
After two tough losses, Plano West responded on Saturday with a convincing 6-2 win over Rains—a victory that also marked Coach Ledsome’s 500th career win in his 26th season as Head Coach of the Wolves.
The Wolves took control early, scoring in the first inning thanks to Kaaya Mehta’s two-RBI single.
Marlee Flanigan delivered a dominant performance on the mound, tossing six innings while allowing only two runs on seven hits, striking out seven with no walks.
Offensively, Amber Carrillo led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3. Mehta and Flanigan each drove in two runs, while Abby Cuellar added two hits and stole two bases. The Wolves also played a clean defensive game, committing zero errors.
