Plano West Junior Varsity Wolves Split Games in Home Tournament

The Plano West Junior Varsity Wolves hosted a competitive tournament on their home field Saturday, February 22, earning a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Wylie JV before falling to Melissa JV 5-2. The Wolves showcased strong pitching, aggressive baserunning, and solid defensive play throughout the day.
Plano West Holds Off Wylie JV for 4-3 Win
The Wolves opened the tournament with a close battle against Wylie JV, securing a 4-3 victory. Plano West took an early lead in the first inning when an error allowed a run to score. Another Wylie JV miscue in the second gave the Wolves a 2-0 advantage.
Wylie JV responded in the third, tying the game at two after a key single down the right field line. However, Plano West capitalized on another defensive misplay in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead, 3-2. The Wolves tacked on an insurance run in the fourth and held on for the win.
Emma Kesler delivered a strong performance in the circle, striking out six over four and two-thirds innings while allowing just four hits. Aderes Villela drove in a run, and Ava Fuquay led the offense with a hit. The Wolves showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks, with Kate Hatfield and Aubrie Bowden each collecting two free passes. Bowden also wreaked havoc on the basepaths, swiping three of Plano West’s six stolen bases in the game.
Wolves Come Up Short Against Melissa JV
In their second matchup of the day, Plano West fell 5-2 to Melissa JV. The Wolves struck early, tying the game at one in the first inning after Lola Brown lined a double down the right field line.
Melissa responded in the second, pushing across four runs to take control of the game. A bases-loaded walk, followed by RBI singles from Kinley McGee and Avery Hernandez, gave Melissa a 5-1 lead.
Fuquay was a bright spot for Plano West, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Brown and Zoe Spicer each drove in a run, while Hatfield anchored the defense with a game-high seven fielding chances. The Wolves played a clean defensive game, committing no errors.
Despite the loss, the Wolves showed fight throughout the tournament and will look to build on their performance as they prepare for their next matchup against Melissa JV.
