The Plano West Varsity Wolves had a rollercoaster weekend on the diamond, securing two victories while facing tough competition in two losses. The team showcased resilience, explosive offensive power, and solid defensive play across four games as they now prepare for their next matchup against Plano East.
Plano West Takes Down Elgin with Strong Early Offense
The Wolves started their weekend on a high note, defeating Elgin 9-4 on Friday. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Plano West responded with a four-run bottom half, highlighted by an RBI single from Abby Cuellar and a two-run double from Kaaya Mehta. The Wolves added three more in the second, capped by a two-run homer from Brooke Reasoner.
Cuellar earned the win, allowing three runs over three innings, while Marlee Flanigan provided relief. Reasoner led the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Elyse Mikes stole two bases, contributing to the Wolves’ aggressive play on the basepaths.
Dripping Springs’ Hot Start Too Much for Wolves
Later on Friday, Plano West faced Dripping Springs and fell 11-5 after an explosive first inning from the Tigers. Despite an early RBI single from Cuellar, Dripping Springs responded with six runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second.
Cuellar remained a bright spot, leading the Wolves with two RBIs on a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Defensively, Plano West played a clean game with no errors. However, Dripping Springs’ 12-hit attack, led by Lorelei Gamble and Morgan Riley, proved too much to overcome.
Summer Creek Silences Wolves’ Bats
On Saturday, Plano West struggled offensively against Summer Creek, falling 8-1. The decisive moment came in the second inning, where Summer Creek erupted for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Salissa Vera.
Reasoner provided the lone highlight for the Wolves, launching a solo home run in the fourth. Isabella Dunn collected two hits, but the offense couldn’t find momentum against Summer Creek’s pitching duo of Abigail Quintana and Kendall Prowell.
Late Rally Secures Win Against Lehman
Plano West bounced back Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Lehman. Trailing 4-0 after two innings, the Wolves clawed back, scoring five unanswered runs, including a game-winning bases-loaded walk by Beetle Nell in the fourth.
Cuellar was instrumental both at the plate and on the mound, delivering an RBI double and securing the win with two shutout innings in relief. Mehta, Reasoner, and Prowell also contributed key hits, while Mikes stole two bases to keep the pressure on Lehman.
Looking Ahead
Plano West closes out the weekend with a 2-2 record, demonstrating both offensive firepower and resilience. They’ll look to carry that energy into their next game at home on Tuesday against district rival Plano East.
Stay tuned as the Wolves continue their season and aim for another strong performance!
