Plano West Varsity Wolves Battle Through Competitive Allen Tournament

The Plano West Varsity Wolves showed resilience and determination in the Allen Tournament, playing three intense games from February 20-22. The Wolves secured a thrilling walk-off victory over Timber Creek, fell in a hard-fought battle to Martin Warriors, and came up short against Emerson.
 
Plano West Walks It Off Against Timber Creek
 
The tournament kicked off with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Timber Creek Varsity Falcon. With the game tied at one in the bottom of the sixth, Isabella Dunn delivered in the clutch with a game-winning single to bring home the deciding run.
 
Pitching was a key factor in the victory, as Marlee Flanigan dominated in the circle, allowing only five hits and one unearned run across six innings while striking out three. The Wolves’ offense was led by Dunn, Elyse Mikes, Beetle Nell, and Andrea Carrillo, each recording a hit. Dunn also showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks.
 
Plano West Drops Heartbreaker to Martin Warriors
 
In another nail-biting contest, the Wolves fell 5-4 to Martin Warriors Varsity2025 on a walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh. Plano West fought back from an early two-run deficit and took the lead in the fifth, thanks to key hits from Abby Cuellar and Kendall Prowell.
 
Beetle Nell’s groundout in the sixth gave the Wolves a 4-3 lead, but Martin Warriors responded, tying the game in the sixth before sealing the win in the seventh. Cuellar pitched a strong game despite the loss, striking out seven batters over six and two-thirds innings.
 
Offensively, Nell led the team with two RBIs, while Cuellar, Prowell, Brooke Reasoner, Kaaya Mehta, Whitney Flanigan, and Sara Guiou each contributed a hit.
 
Emerson Mavericks Overpower Plano West
 
In the final game of the tournament, the Wolves struggled against Emerson Varsity Mavericks, falling 7-3. Emerson capitalized early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Despite a solid relief effort from Flanigan, who struck out six over five and two-thirds innings, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
 
Cuellar drove in all three runs for Plano West, finishing 1-for-4. Sophia Nell had a strong game at the plate, leading the team with two hits. Defensively, the Wolves played a clean game with no errors, and Kaaya Mehta led the team with five defensive chances.
 
Looking Ahead
 
Despite the ups and downs, the Wolves demonstrated their competitive spirit throughout the Allen Tournament. They now shift focus to their next matchup against Rock Hill on Tuesday.
