The Wolves got off to a slow start on offense Friday night, but eventually rallied to beat Coppell 8-1. Big bats on the night came from Junior Izzy Dunn and Sophomores Abby Cuellar and Abby Jennings, each going 3 for 4 at the plate.
No runs hit the board until the third inning when Cuellar singled, driving in Dunn who had tripled just before her. Coppell managed a bloop hit to centerfield that allowed one run to score; it was their only run of the game. Plano West opened the game up in a big fifth inning, scoring four runs. Those four runs came from a Coppell error, a single from Junior Elyse Mikes, a Jennings single, and a sacrifice fly from Sophomore Abby Chunn. The Wolves generated more offense in the sixth and seventh inning. In the sixth, two runs were scored as a result of a walk by Sophomore Brooke Reasoner and singles from Dunn and Cuellar. An insurance run in the seventh came from a Jennings single and a line-drive double by Junior Kaaya Mehta.
Senior Carra Cleaves earned the win for the Wolves. The starter threw 88 pitches over six innings, allowing just one run on five hits, striking out five and walking two. Junior Marlee Flanigan pitched one inning of no-run ball to finish out the game, giving up one hit.
Despite the slow offensive start, Plano West managed twelve hits in the game. They had two uncharacteristic errors on defense.
