Mehta With 4 RBIs to Lead West Over Flower Mound

Junior Kaaya Mehta drove in four runs on Monday night to lead Plano West to victory 13-7 over the Flower Mound Jaguars. Mehta doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and hit a home run to left field in the fourth, scoring two more.

 

The Wolves got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run and Mehta's double drove in two more. A steal of home by Sophomore catcher Brooke Reasoner extended the Wolves lead to four in the top of the second. Four more Wolves crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 8-2. In addition to Mehta's two-run homerun, Junior Izzy Dunn scored on a wild pitch and Sophomore Abby Jennings singled to drive in Sophomore Abby Cuellar. Plano West tacked on some insurance runs in the seventh with a two-run long ball over the right field fence.

 

Junior Marlee Flanigan earned the win for Plano West. She surrendered four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Senior MC Pollacia appeared in relief for 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, also striking out one and walking one. Senior Carra Cleaves closed the game out for the Wolves in the circle, pitching 1.2 innings of no-hit, no-run ball and striking out two.

 

Plano West had a busy offense on the night, amassing 15 hits. Cuellar led the pack going 3 for 5 at the plate. Mehta, Jennings, Mikes, and Dunn tallied two hits each. The team stole four bases and on defense, were once again flawless with no errors.

 

Plano West still sits at the top in district standings with a 6 and 1 record at the completion of the first round of district games. Round 2 starts on Friday against Coppell at the Cowgirls' field.
