3/2/2024 5:40 pm
Plano West took care of business in their final game of the McKinney Tournament on Saturday, beating Sachse in a run-rule victory 12-2. Sachse lit up the board first with two runs in the top of the first, but that was the only offense Sachse could manage in the game, especially with two big innings by West in the first and second that produced 11 runs.
The Wolves scored five runs in the first on three hits, with Sophomore Abby Jennings getting the credit for 2 RBIs on a single. Other offense that inning came from Junior Elyse Mikes and a double from Junior Marlee Flanigan. The second inning brought more big bats with Plano West scoring six runs on seven hits. Mikes homered that inning over the left field wall to score two runs, and Flanigan and Reasoner both doubled.
Flanigan started in the circle and earned the win. She gave up two hits and two runs in two innings. Seniors Carra Cleaves and MC Pollacia each pitched in relief, both shutting Celina down with no hits and no runs.
The Wolves tallied 12 hits in the game. Junior Izzy Dunn led the team with three hits in three at bats from the lead-off position. Flanigan seized on her plate opportunities going 2 for 2 with five RBIs from the number eight spot in the lineup. Jennings and Mikes each collected two hits and Junior Kaaya Mehta paced the team with two walks. Overall, the team exercised patience at the plate drawing six walks during the game.
The Wolves open district play on Tuesday night again Coppell at home, celebrating Senior Night for the season.
