Wolves Down Plano Wildcats to Take District Lead

4/4/2023 11:00 pm

Plano West beat Plano Senior for the second time this season in a 6-2 victory. It was another well-rounded effort by the Wolves. The bats were working, the gloves were sure-handed, and the pitching was solid.

The Wolves offense kicked off early in the second inning. Back to back doubles by Junior Carra Cleaves and Sophomore Kaaya Mehta pushed the first run across the plate. But it was the third inning when Plano West broke open the game. Four runs were driven in by Sophomore Izzy Dunn, Senior Brooke Hilton, Freshman Abby Jennings, and Cleaves. Hilton and Jennings led the offense for the game with two hits each.

Plano West was strong on defense as well. The team committed no errors. Sophomore Ally Martin had the most chances in the field with 10.

Cleaves was credited with the victory in the circle. The fireballer allowed 2 runs in 5.1 innings, striking out 5 and only walking 1. Junior MC Pollacia threw 1.2 innings in relief to finish out the game.

With the win over Plano Senior and a loss by Flower Mound to Marcus, the Wolves now stand alone in first place in district. Their next game is at Lewisville on Thursday night.
